Parkvale Primary pupils shine at spelling bee
Among the standout performers was grade six pupil Anathi Vilakazi, who reached the top 10 at the circuit level of the Department of Basic Education (DBE) Spelling Bee, further underscoring the high level of talent and dedication at Parkvale Primary.
Pupils from Parkvale Primary recently showcased their impressive spelling abilities at a competitive spelling bee hosted at the Newlands West school.
The event, which saw participation from pupils across grades four to seven, highlighted the school’s dedication to academic excellence and literacy development. For the first time, grade three pupils were also introduced to the competition, receiving a list of 50 words to prepare.
Despite being new to the contest, the young spellers confidently rose to the challenge, impressing both teachers and peers. Mrs S Mahomed, English teacher and spelling bee co-ordinator emphasised the importance of these events.

“Participating in the spelling bee, and the practice required to compete, not only helps children develop spelling skills and reading comprehension but can boost their confidence and communication skills,” she shared.
