Driver appears in court after fatal Higginson Highway crash
Once the fire had been extinguished, paramedics assessed the patients, however, both men had sadly sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene.
A 44-year-old man recently appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court on charges of culpable homicide and driving under the influence after a horrific crash on the Higginson Highway, which claimed the lives of two people.
ALS Paramedics spokesperson, Garrith Jamieson, confirmed that the crash occurred just before 11pm on Tuesday evening on the M1 Higginson Highway eastbound before the Havenside Robots in Chatsworth.

“Paramedics arrived at the scene to find chaos and carnage. They found that two vehicles, both bakkies, had collided head-on. Paramedics quickly assessed the scene and found that two male occupants were severely entrapped in one of the vehicles. As paramedics approached the vehicle, the vehicle burst into flames. Unfortunately, there was nothing more paramedics could do except wait for the eThekwini Fire Department. Once the fire had been extinguished, paramedics assessed the patients, however, both men had sadly sustained fatal injuries and were declared dead at the scene. The second driver had sustained minor injuries and was treated and transported to hospital under police guard,” said Jamieson.
