UPDATE: Young man killed in horrific M1 Higginson car crash
The young victim, who has been identified as Kenneth George Govindasamy, was an accounts manager and was declared dead at the scene of the accident due to the severity of his injuries.

A 25-year-old Montford man was killed after his vehicle overturned on the M1 Higginson Highway near Moorton, while returning from a fishing trip, on Sunday morning.

The victim’s uncle, Mr T Pillay said that the victim was loved by everyone who knew him. “Kenneth was a helpful and jovial young man, who always had a smile on his face. His untimely and tragic death has left a void in our lives which can never be filled. His mother is extremely distraught as he was the only son,” said Pillay.
According to Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamieson, they responded to the scene of the incident just after 5am. “Upon arrival, paramedics found that the vehicle rolled several times before coming to rest on its roof. They assessed the victim and found that he sustained major injuries and passed away before they could arrive,” he said.
Jamieson added, “The exact details surrounding the tragic incident are not fully known at this stage, however, the police was at the scene and will be investigating further.”
Meanwhile, following the victim’s death, social networking platform, Facebook, was flooded with heartfelt tributes. Govindasamy was described as a gentleman and as a ‘beautiful soul’, who touched many lives. Tears were shed by close family and friends as they bid their final farewell to the victim on Monday afternoon. The large turnout at his funeral certainly bears testimony of the life that Govindasamy led and lived.
Communications officer at Chatsworth SAPS, Cpt Cheryl Pillay said, “According to reports at Chatsworth SAPS, on Sunday, February 26 at about 5am, an accident occurred on the Higginson Highway near the Moorton off-ramp.”
She added, “It is alleged that the driver lost control of the vehicle and collided into a nearby tree. Chatsworth SAPS is investigating a case of culpable homicide.”
