Crack down on drug cartels as two young men arrested

The 22-year-old faces charges of dealing and possession of heroin. The 19-year-old, charged with possession of narcotics, was released on warning.

Police are closing the net on drug cartels in the south of Durban with the latest incident involving two young men, who were arrested and charged for possession of hard drugs.

Officers from the Metro Street Crime Watch Unit operating in the Wentworth SAPS precinct arrested the suspects for drug-related offences on Major Culvert Road on Thursday.

In the night, officers who were conducting crime prevention duties in the Wentworth flats area stopped a 22-year-old man.

A body search revealed 88 red and white capsules containing a brownish powder suspected to be heroin, concealed in a clear plastic bag.

Police also seized an undisclosed amount of cash believed to be proceeds from drug dealing. Five minutes later at 8:30pm, a second arrest was made on the same road.

A 19-year-old man was found in possession of six and a half tablets of suspected mandrax stored in a clear zip-lock packet.
