Father and son drift their way to top spots

Established local drifter, Joey Govender, has seen yet another milestone after scoring in the top five together with his son at a recent drift event in Johannesburg.
The Rock Raceway set the stage in the latest round of the Torque Titans Drift Series, featuring some of the most talented drifters in the country.
While he participated in the Gold Cup, Govender’s son, JJ Govender, participated in the Silver Cup – which was only his second-ever competition.

Despite his perceived inexperience, 20-year-old JJ has been at his father’s side for years, helping to build his drift cars and accompanying him on trips across the country, track after track.
While Joey clinched an impressive fourth-place finish in the Gold Cup, JJ stunned as he took the podium with a second-place finish in the Silver Cup.
Joey, gleaming with pride, said, “My son is drifting extremely well and really stepped up his game. He left everyone shocked at his performance.”
