Fatal taxi crash claims life of pedestrian

A pedestrian was struck and then crushed by a taxi that had veered off the road in a devastating taxi accident in Clare Estate on Monday morning. The incident occurred around 7:30am on Clare Road near Burnwood Road, when a taxi reportedly lost control, veered off the roadway, struck a pedestrian walking on the pavement, and collided with a light pole.

ALS Paramedics, who were alerted about the incident, described it as a scene of ‘carnage’. Upon arrival, they found the pedestrian, a woman believed to be in her late thirties, trapped under the taxi. Despite efforts to assist, paramedics confirmed that she had sustained major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

The eThekwini Fire Department was called to assist with removing the victim from under the vehicle. One passenger inside the taxi sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
