717 wanted suspects arrested in Gauteng police crackdown
The weekend operation yielded positive results for the SAPS.
Gauteng’s provincial commissioner, Lieutenant General Tommy Mthombeni, led another successful multi-disciplinary high-density Operation Shanela in the Alexandra SAPS policing precinct, Johannesburg district, recently.

During the operation, police arrested 24 motorists for driving under the influence of alcohol, while 21 undocumented illegal immigrants were apprehended.
Four suspects were arrested for possession of drugs, and two suspects were arrested for tampering with essential infrastructure.
Police also closed down four liquor outlets for contravening the Liquor Act. In addition, one Toyota Quantum was impounded after it was found with a tampered engine number.

Gauteng detectives arrested 717 wanted suspects overnight, including 137 suspects wanted for crimes against women and children.
