Two suspects arrested with illegal firearms in intelligence-driven operation
The recovered firearms will be subjected to ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in the commission of other crimes.
A crime intelligence-driven operation led to the arrest of two suspects, aged 21 and 26, for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition in the Johannesburg district, recently.

Members of the SAPS Anti-Gang Unit, supported by the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), operationalised information regarding suspects allegedly linked to a murder committed in Sophiatown.
Police first proceeded to a residence in Westbury where a 21-year-old suspect was searched and found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol, a magazine and live ammunition. The firearm’s serial number had been filed off.
The team then followed up on additional information and proceeded to a second address where a 26-year-old suspect was found hiding. He was searched and found in possession of another unlicensed 9mm pistol, a magazine and live ammunition.
Both suspects were arrested.
