Two arrested in Durban for armed robbery and illegal firearms
Both suspects remain in custody and are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court soon as investigations continue.
Two suspects arrested in separate incidents in Durban over the weekend are expected to appear in court on charges related to armed robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
According to Durban Central SAPS communications officer, Sgt Zanele Khomo, the arrests were made by crime prevention units during routine operations on Saturday, April 11.
In the first incident, Morningside crime prevention officers responded to a complaint of a cellphone robbery at gunpoint along Woodford Grove at approximately 7:40am.

“The complainant reported that she was robbed of her cellphone by an unknown male who threatened her with a firearm before fleeing the scene,” Sgt Khomo said.
Police were provided with a description of the suspect and managed to locate him shortly thereafter. Upon searching the 31-year-old suspect, officers recovered the firearm allegedly used in the robbery.
He was arrested and detained at Durban Central SAPS on charges of armed robbery and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
In a separate incident later that day, at around 1:30pm, officers from the Field Unit arrested a second suspect near the YMCA Taxi Rank on Alice Street.

“During a search, officers recovered a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off, along with a magazine and seven rounds of ammunition,” Sgt Khomo confirmed.
The 33-year-old suspect was charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful ammunition. Both suspects remain in custody and are expected to appear in the Durban Magistrates Court soon as investigations continue.
