Golf day gratitude from TAFTA
TAFTA extended its sincere appreciation to all its generous contributors.
The Association For The Aged (TAFTA) successfully hosted its 2026 Corporate Golf Day on Friday at the Umhlali Country Club, bringing together businesses, community partners, sponsors and supporters in aid of a cause that continues to impact thousands of older persons across South Africa.
The event was held in support of TEAL (TAFTA’s Elder Abuse Line), a dedicated support service that provides confidential counselling, guidance, referrals and assistance to older persons experiencing abuse, neglect and exploitation.
To date, the service has received more than 5, 144 calls, facilitated 622 email referrals and 658 verbal referrals, helping connect vulnerable individuals with the support and intervention they need.
Despite chilly weather conditions and traffic challenges experienced on the day, participants arrived in high spirits and contributed to a successful event that combined networking, friendly competition and meaningful community impact – raising enough funds to sustain TEAL operating costs for three months.

The event also featured a sports memorabilia auction, in partnership with Pro Fans Auctioneers, who provided sought-after items including signed sporting merchandise, exclusive golf experiences and collector’s items.
TAFTA extended its sincere appreciation to all its generous contributors.
Chief executive officer, Femada Shamam, expressed her appreciation to everyone who supported the event. She said, “We are deeply grateful to our 21 four-ball teams, 11 tee sponsors, 12 prize sponsors, partners and supporters who chose to stand with us and invest in the wellbeing, dignity and safety of older persons. Every contribution helps us continue providing critical services to older persons, including those who rely on TEAL for support and protection.”
As South Africa’s population of older people continues to grow, community support becomes imperative in sustaining essential services.
