Taxi driver three times over legal limit among 14 arrested
The arrests form part of the Metro Police’s continued efforts to strengthen road and traffic by-laws to ensure the safety and well-being of road users.
Metro Police arrested 14 drivers for drunk driving during a co-ordinated multi-stakeholder roadblock on Shezi Main Road, in the Mpumalanga Township, recently.
Among those arrested was a minibus taxi driver, who was three times over the legal limit. Metro Police spokesperson, Colonel Boysie Zungu, said the driver recorded a breath alcohol reading of 1.56.

“He was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol,” he said.

Col Zungu said roadblocks are conducted in partnership with valued stakeholders.
“We’re pleased with the progress of our roadblocks. These collaborative efforts are made by the Metro Police working with the South African Police Service and other law enforcement agencies,” he concluded.
