28 arrested in Umkomaas drunk driving crackdown
In an effort to combat road fatalities, Umkomaas SAPS and other law enforcement agencies have intensified their operations targeting drunken driving.
During a co-ordinated drunk driving operation, recently, the Umkomaas police, alongside the Road Traffic Inspectorate Winkelspruit and Durban Metro Police, apprehended numerous drunken drivers.
In an effort to combat road fatalities, Umkomaas SAPS and other law enforcement agencies have intensified their operations targeting drunken driving.

This high-impact blitz resulted in a significant number of arrests, highlighting that drunken driving is a leading cause of preventable road deaths.
Motorists are encouraged to plan their travels responsibly and arrange for a designated driver, taxi, or a ride-sharing service.

According to Umkomaas police spokesperson, Cpt Ranjith Rampersad, 28 drivers were arrested for drunken driving during this operation, which involved collaboration with SAPS, Durban Metro Police, and the Road Traffic Inspectorate Winkelspruit.
The acting station commander of Umkomaas SAPS, Lt Col MD Zungu, stated that the Umkomaas police precinct is a ‘no-go area’ for drunk drivers, and every effort will be made to apprehend offenders. Further operations are strategically planned for the precinct to ensure road safety.
