SANBS blood donation drive draws strong support at Lenmed Ahmed Kathrada Hospital

A single unit of donated blood can potentially save up to three lives, making every donation a valuable gift to patients and their families.

In a collective effort to save lives, Lenmed Ahmed Kathrada Private Hospital in Lenasia hosted the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) for a blood donation drive on Tuesday, June 9.

The initiative brought together hospital staff and community members, including both first-time and regular donors, all united by a common goal – helping ensure that life-saving blood is available for patients in need.

Throughout the day, donors rolled up their sleeves to make a contribution that could mean the difference between life and death for someone requiring emergency surgery, cancer treatment, maternity care, or treatment following an accident.

Blood donation remains one of the simplest yet most impactful ways to help others.

The drive also served as an opportunity to raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood donations. Blood has a limited shelf life, meaning a constant supply of donors is needed to maintain adequate stock levels and meet the demands of hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country.

Participants were thanked for their generosity and commitment to helping others. As a token of appreciation, donors received complimentary goodie bags and stainless-steel tumblers after donating.

The successful drive highlighted the spirit of community and compassion in Lenasia, with residents and healthcare workers stepping forward to support a cause that benefits countless people beyond their immediate circles.

As demand for blood continues throughout the year, the SANBS encourages eligible individuals to become regular donors, reminding the public that a small act of kindness can have a life-changing impact on someone else’s future.
