MEECA seniors celebrate friendship and fatherhood
MEECA thanked the club committee, volunteers, sponsors, members, and families for making the outing a success.
More than 80 members and guests of the Mount Edgecombe and Estates Community Association (MEECA) Senior Citizens Club recently gathered at the Japanese Gardens for a special pre-Father’s Day outing that celebrated friendship, family, and community spirit.
Set among the tranquil ponds, scenic bridges, and lush surroundings of the gardens, the event provided an opportunity for senior citizens to reconnect, relax, and create new memories together.
The day began with breakfast, where members caught up with old friends and shared stories from years gone by.
As the outing progressed, the atmosphere came alive with laughter as participants enjoyed games, music, dancing, and social activities.
For many, the gathering rekindled memories of the old Mount Edgecombe barracks days, when neighbours lived closely together and supported one another like family.
The event served as a reminder that while the community has evolved over the years, its strong sense of unity remains intact.

A highlight of the day was a special Father’s Day tribute. Every father in attendance received a gift in recognition of the role they have played in raising families and helping shape the community.
Senior citizens club chairperson, Vijay Moonsamy, paid tribute to the fathers present, saying, “If not for you, we would not be here. I am super proud of you, dads.”
Members also enjoyed leisurely walks through the gardens, taking photographs and appreciating the peaceful surroundings. The picturesque setting provided the perfect backdrop for relaxation and reflection.
A shared lunch added to the spirit of fellowship, with members spending time together over good food and conversation.
Organisers said the atmosphere reflected the warmth, generosity, and sense of belonging that have long been hallmarks of the Mount Edgecombe community.
The MEECA Senior Citizens Club, which now has more than 110 members of Mount Edgecombe descent, continues to grow and provide opportunities for social interaction, recreation, and heritage preservation.
MEECA thanked the club committee, volunteers, sponsors, members, and families for making the outing a success.
As members departed at the end of the day, they did so with renewed friendships, fond memories, and a shared appreciation for the community that continues to bring them together.
