Celebrate Mandela Day by giving hope through the Brown Paper Bag Campaign
Let’s unite as Chatsworth to honour Madiba’s legacy, restore dignity, and bring smiles to the elders.
Celebrate Nelson Mandela Day this July by putting your compassion into action right here in your community.
The Nelson Mandela Community Youth Centre, together with Revolution Motorcycle Club, is bringing back its heartwarming Brown Paper Bag Campaign, offering a meaningful way for locals to dedicate their 67 minutes to helping those less fortunate.
The 67 minutes of helping others prove that small, collective actions can spark massive change.
Clive Pillay from the youth centre explained, “Getting involved is simple and open to individuals, schools, families, companies, and community organisations. First, visit the youth centre to collect your empty brown paper bags. Next, decorate the bags with inspiring Mandela images, colourful designs, or powerful quotes. Once your artistic masterpiece is complete, fill the bag with ten or more items designed to bring comfort and joy to underprivileged pensioners. You can pack non-perishable food items like canned food, tea bags, and biscuits, alongside essential toiletries such as soap, toothpaste, and lotions. Any items that will make a senior citizen’s life a little easier or brighter are welcome.”

Please return your filled, beautifully decorated bags to the youth centre before July 30, 2026.
“The youth centre together with the bike club has planned a series of special events dedicated to poor pensioners, where your generous brown paper bags will be distributed directly to those who need them most,” Pillay added.
