A devastating fire that tore through a residence in Lenasia Extension 13 has left a family reeling, believing they were deliberately targeted in an act of arson that has left them homeless and bereft of all their possessions.

Recounting the terrifying moment, a family member described waking up to a blaze of orange flames engulfing the kitchen, triggering immediate chaos as his sister frantically searched for a way to respond to the emergency.

Fortunately, vigilant neighbours spotted the inferno and sprang into action, rushing to aid the distressed family. In a display of heroism, Abdulsalaam Marwing courageously removed the window burglar bars to rescue the trapped occupants, ensuring their safety amid the chaos.

The family members suffered from smoke inhalation, with one individual requiring hospitalisation as a result of the ordeal. Despite the efforts of the fire brigade to extinguish the blaze, pockets of fire still smouldered in some rooms when the Lenasia Rising Sun arrived at the scene at 8:49am, highlighting the extent of the destruction wrought by the fire.

The once-beloved family home now stands in ruins, reduced to ash and charred remnants. Suspicions of foul play loom large, with the family pointing to a burned tyre as potential evidence of a deliberate attack.

Allegations of prior victimisation by a known individual further fuel their belief that they have been singled out as targets. Past disillusionment with the SAPS system has left the family feeling unsupported, prompting them to seek assistance from the community in their time of dire need.
