Chatsworth’s wrestling sensation, Daryl ‘Nightmare’ Naidu, is off to an electrifying start this year, with a slew of exciting national and international endeavours on the horizon. Driven by his passion to uplift the Chatsworth community, Nightmare is spearheading innovative projects that showcase South Africa’s rich wrestling talent, while celebrating the country’s vibrant cultural diversity.
Through his initiatives, the Moorton resident aims to inspire and empower the next generation of wrestling enthusiasts, cementing his legacy as a champion in and out of the squared circle.
After launching the World Wrestling Alliance (WWA), Nightmare has been on a mission to promote South African talent on national and international soil. His recent meeting with prominent businessmen from India bears testament to this. He touched base with the Rising Sun, recently, to share more insight into this upcoming project.
“I’ve been in the wrestling industry for almost 20 years. In this time, I ‘fought’ hard to bring wrestling back to Durban and despite obstacles faced along the way, the doors were eventually opened for many wrestling hopefuls,” he shared, reminiscing on the days when he was just a Chatsworth kid, chasing his dreams.
After years of intense matches, promoting wrestling and hosting live shows, Nightmare was forced to retire due to an RCC kidney cancer diagnosis. “It’s been a tough ride, but the encouragement that I received from my late dad helped me get back into the ring and start my own wrestling company and promotion. After the launch of WWA, I have set my sights to greater heights. My hometown so lovingly put me on the map and now it’s time to return the favour,” he continued.
His excitement was palpable as he explained that the launch of WWA was so popular that it even caught the attention of top businessmen and CEOs from India, who he has engaged with on numerous occasions.
“After several video chat meetings, I had these business giants fly over to South Africa – we just had to meet in person to discuss our collective visions. They were given a grand tour of Chatsworth where we proudly and rightfully boasted about our vibrant community and its rich heritage and diversity. In the grand scheme of things, I would love for these individuals to invest and help build a development and entertainment centre – a safe haven for youngsters where they will be able to enjoy various facilities such as a cinema, gaming arcades, pool halls, and other fun-filled activities. It’s my ultimate dream to build an establishment of this nature where the community can come together to celebrate life in an environment that is free from social ills,” he added.

In order for Nightmare to achieve this dream, he knows that he will have to sacrifice his time and leave his hometown for some time in his pursuit of returning back victoriously with hope for his hometown. He admitted that the wrestling industry in South Africa does lack financial sponsorship, which sometimes results in shows that do not match up to intended standards.
“This is mainly why I want our local superstars to shine internationally while also bringing glory back to my hometown. By receiving investments from well-established developers, they will be uplifting Chatsworth by building positive structures for our youth,” Nightmare added. He recalls the enthusiasm received after his very first WWA showcase last year.
“The success of the show, which was held at the Arena Park Regional Hall, was huge! Fans are constantly asking me when’s the next show. Planning a show of this magnitude was no easy feat – especially since there were no sponsors, but there was a determination to succeed and make history while stamping our existence as a South African product,” he enthused.
Through this new venture, he will facilitate international wrestling tours in India. A selection process will soon begin in SA and India. However, the highlight is that Nightmare will also be able to book international superstars to wrestle on these tours.
He will also be scouting for young talent from the best promotions in SA to join them. He concluded by providing a sneak peek into his upcoming adventures.
“I am currently negotiating a reality TV show in India and have already put together a concept. I am also in the planning stages for our first live show in India. In addition to this, we are also preparing for our next wrestling instalment in Durban. Lastly, we are also planning a Tattoo-a-Thon for 2025 where we will come together to raise funds for a very young and courageous child fighting stage four cancer,” he concluded with a smile.
