The Hillgrove Primary School community is celebrating the outstanding achievement of teachers, Ahmed Meer and Nicholas Khanyile, who successfully completed the 2026 Comrades Marathon, one of the world’s most demanding ultra-marathon races.
The school’s management, staff and pupils have congratulated the pair for their determination, resilience and commitment in conquering the gruelling race, which tests both physical endurance and mental strength.
According to the school, Meer and Khanyile rose to the challenge with unwavering perseverance, demonstrating the same dedication and discipline that they bring to their classrooms every day.

Principal Khan said the teachers’ accomplishment reflects the values that Hillgrove Primary strives to instil in its pupils.
“Mr Meer and Mr Khanyile have made our school extremely proud. Their achievement embodies our motto, ‘Towards Human Excellence’, and serves as a powerful example of determination, commitment and perseverance. We congratulate them on this incredible accomplishment and wish them continued success in all their future endeavours,” said the principal.
The achievement is particularly significant as both teachers have become familiar faces in the Comrades Marathon fraternity. In 2022, the school celebrated the duo after they completed the iconic race, with Mr Khanyile recognised as a seasoned Comrades runner and Mr Meer earning his first medal.
Four years later, the pair have once again demonstrated their passion for endurance running and their commitment to setting a positive example for the school community.
Their success serves as a reminder that perseverance, discipline and a positive mindset can help individuals overcome even the toughest challenges.
