Men found guilty of Shallcross murders
On the fateful night, three men approached a liquor outlet where they fatally stabbed two victims. The men died at the scene.
A stellar investigation conducted by Det Sgt Mzwakhe Joseph Jwara of the Chatsworth SAPS Serious and Violent Crimes Unit has resulted in the incarceration of three violent criminals.

During court proceedings, the Durban Regional Court heard about the violent attack on police officials at the Bottlebrush Informal Settlement in Crossmoor.
Chatsworth SAPS communications officer, Cpt Cheryl Pillay, said, “On the fateful night, three men approached a liquor outlet where they fatally stabbed two victims. The men died at the scene. Det Sgt Jwara successfully opposed bail in the first court appearance in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court, which would secure their attendance at court. More than a year later, Zanomsa Siwaphi (43), Onela Maduna (27), and Zwelivumile Gebe (40) felt the full might of the law when the judge sentenced all three for murder. Siwaphi was sentenced to 20 years in prison, while Maduna and Gebe were sentenced to 15 years behind bars.”
Station commander of Chatsworth SAPS, Brig Ruth De Villiers, applauded the sterling investigation undertaken by Det Sgt Jwara, which resulted in the successful conviction.

“Every life is precious and therefore, any act of violence is unacceptable and punishable by law. We remain committed to upholding the constitution, which is to protect life and property. September marks Police Safety and National Commemoration Month for fallen heroes. In light of this, police safety remains a concern for my management. We appeal to the community to respect police officers, who are serving and protecting the community. Police are cautioning society not to harbour criminals and instead, allow police to apprehend alleged perpetrators with prosecution to follow. Any person who takes the law into their own hands will be arrested and placed before the criminal justice system to face the law of the country,” explained Brig De Villiers.
