Female arrested for possession of illegal firearm
The woman was charged and detained at the Verulam police station for possession of an unlicensed firearm and unlawful possession of ammunition.
A 45-year-old was arrested at a flat in Oakland Street in Verulam after she was found in possession of an illegal firearm, over the weekend. In light of this, police officers are issuing a stern warning that illegal firearms will not be tolerated.
Verulam SAPS spokesperson, Cnst Bongiwe Ngcobo, said, “Crime prevention and intelligence officers received information regarding drugs and an unlicensed firearm being stored at the property. With assistance from the Metro Police, they conducted an operation on the targeted premises, and successfully arrested the 45-year-old woman, recovering an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.”

“The police would like to warn the community. Should residents have such items as firearms that are not licensed, they must surrender them at police stations as they are not to be kept at home. The community is encouraged to report any criminal activities at all times so that we can fight crime and create a safe environment for all,” ended Cnst Ngcobo.
