Family reels in shock after man killed with bush knife
Communications officer of Chatsworth SAPS, Cpt Cheryl Pillay, said, “It is alleged that on June 7, an altercation occurred at a property in Woodhurst where a 41-yearold man was killed after he sustained a stab wound. The 31-year-old accused then fled from the crime scene. Chatsworth police immediately activated a team, which resulted in the arrest of the alleged perpetrator. The accused appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court on a charge of murder.”
The family of a Woodhurst father have been left reeling after he was brutally murdered with a bush knife, allegedly by his own son-in-law, last Friday. The aunt of the deceased, a distraught Roselyn Pillay, said everyone is ‘shocked and saddened’ by the sudden death of Kevin Shagney Naidoo.
“My nephew lived alone and was not troublesome to anyone. The circumstances surrounding his death are not very clear to us. All we know is that he was chopped with a bush knife on his neck after an altercation outside Alencon Primary School on Friday midday, a few meters from where I live. Even though Kevin was no saint, he minded his own business. He did not deserve to die in this horrific and heinous manner,” she told the Rising Sun.

The 31-year-old accused was arrested just hours after the murder by Chatsworth police and appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court, on Monday, where he was remanded in police custody.

Pillay described her nephew as a kind-hearted person, who lived life to the fullest.

“Even though he did not have much and was unemployed, he was happy. Right now, all we want is for justice to be served. We ask the police to leave no stone unturned as we pray for justice to prevail. No one deserves to die in such a cruel manner. There are other avenues to sort out problems and this is not the way. Kevin never looked for trouble. He kept to himself and lived with his dog in the flats on Sunset Avenue. He was separated from his wife but had two daughters.”
Naidoo’s funeral will take place on Tuesday.
