Metro Police issue thousands of fines for flouting the law
Metro Police were able to achieve these successes by conducting the following operations including ensuring adherence to the city’s by-laws and crime prevention which was conducted with various stakeholders.
Metro Police worked to successfully ensure the safety of residents and visitors during the festive season with thousands of fines issued to those flouting the law.
This comes as the Metro Police recently released their festive season operation statistics for the period of December 16 to 26. To target driving while under the influence of alcohol, overloading and ensuring vehicle roadworthiness, the Metro Police issued 10, 669 fines and had 61 arrests for drunk driving.

Addressing traffic by-law violations, nuisance behaviour, and informal and illegal trading, they issued 3, 049 fines and effected two arrests for police obstruction.

While there were several arrests for theft, hijackings, firearm control drug dealing and drug use, these arrests can only be finalised once the case has been processed in court.
