Mardi Gras celebration to bring colour to Scott Street
With 12 years of Mardi Gras experience, Lorna Thomson from South Coast Lifestyle Marketing and Events was able to assist Scottburgh Lions Club this year- with only three months to prepare. The Lions raise funds and give their time freely to help the less fortunate.
Scott Street in Scottburgh will come alive with colour and excitement on December 17 when the annual Mardi Gras celebration takes place.
One of the oldest events in Umdoni, the Scottburgh Mardi Gras was first held in 1993. Lorna Thomson, the organiser, said the event breathes life into Scottburgh and brings the community together.
This is a team effort event. With 12 years of Mardi Gras experience, Lorna Thomson from South Coast Lifestyle Marketing and Events was able to assist Scottburgh Lions Club this year- with only three months to prepare. The Lions raise funds and give their time freely to help the less fortunate.
“The bonds of fellowship forged through the members’ participation help them to raise the funds needed to carry out their important local and worldwide service activities,” said the president of the organisation, Dennis Botha.
The event promises to be amazing, with a variety of things to do for the whole family. There will be over 25 food stalls (162 stalls showcasing), handmade crafts, Bric and Brac, Christmas hampers, kiddie toys, educational, and lots more- a Kiddies Zone by Rocky O Reilly Irish Pub and Hi–Q court, where the little ones will enjoy cupcake icing, sand art, face painting, colouring in, colour hairspray painting, jungle gym, and jumping castle.

“Come and join in Scottburgh Mardi Gras fun egg-nog walk competition, sponsored by the Wooden Deck restaurant, at 1pm. Categories include first, second, and third prize, the jolliest singer, and best dressed. Pubs to be jolly at include the Stones Restaurant, Rocky O Reilly Irish Pub, Ediston Inn, and Poison Apple. Liezel Jooste and her daughter will entertain you with majorette dancing- alongside DJ Alex Clark. Not to be missed, reptile lovers can also enjoy a demonstration from Crocworld. It’s going to be a joyous occasion so don’t miss out.
