Police killer sentenced to 20 years behind bars
A case of murder was reported at Umlazi police station and the case docket was allocated to the Hawks from Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation for intensive investigation.

The Durban High Court convicted and sentenced Mzo Ntombela (27) to 20 years imprisonment for the murder of Cpt Zwelakhe Ntombela (50), who was stationed at Durban Metro Police.
Cpt Ntombela was shot and killed while he was arriving at his home in Umlazi on May 3, 2023. He was then robbed of his private and service pistols.

Mzo was arrested by the Hawks working together with National Intervention Unit in July at Umsinga area where he was hiding. Cpt Ntombela’s firearms were recovered at the accused’s homestead at KwaMaphumulo.

The KwaZulu-Natal Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation provincial head, Maj Gen Lesetja Senona welcomed the sentence and commended the officers for the good work of presenting a well-investigated docket in court.
“The Hawks will deal decisively with police killers in the province, I applaud the excellent work of arresting and securing the conviction within three months after the incident,” he said.
