Chats police officer killed in a hail of bullets

A police of ficer, stationed at the Chatsworth SAPS, was brutally shot and killed in a hail of bullets by unknown assailants while he was at his place of residence on Nxele Crescent, Savannah Park, on Saturday.

Provincial communications officer, Col Thembeka Mbele, said, “An unknown suspect, who was in possession of a firearm, approached the victim and began firing shots at him. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds. There were 21 cartridges found at the scene. His service firearm was not taken.”
Following the shooting incident, a silver/ grey Toyota Etios with an unknown registration assisted the suspect in fleeing the scene. “The motive of the killing is unknown at this stage,” she added.

Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) Provincial communications officer, Cpt Simphiwe Mhlongo confirmed that an investigation is underway.
“We can confirm that Hawks members from the Durban Serious Organised Crime Investigation are investigating a case of murder, which occurred at Savannah Park, near Mariannhill on Saturday, January 8. It is alleged that a 27-year-old police official was fatally shot by unknown suspects while he was at his place of residence. The motive of the killing is unknown and no arrests have been made at this stage,” he said.
