Verulam night market- a winner

Hundreds of patrons descended on Wick Street in Verulam, on Saturday night, for its debut night market, hosted by the Verulam Business Forum (VBF).
The market aims to realise the dream of the community, which is taking back their neighbourhood from criminals plaguing the area day and night.

According to the chairperson of the VBF, Sagren Venkatas, the community thoroughly supported the initiative.
He said, “It was unbelievable as the street was packed to capacity. Small businesses and the community were brought together and the feedback from the event has only been positive. With crime riddling the CBD every day, the thought process behind the night street market was to get the community involved by being proactive and resilient against perpetrators. Businesses have lost a lot over the past three years, stemming from COVID-19 to the unrest and unstable electricity supply. This puts a direct impact on entrepreneurs, who are forced to cut back on staff and other necessities just to adjust the bottom line. If crime is eradicated, then we are sure those small businesses will thrive.”
The market had delicious food, live music and crafts on sale. Another one is to be planned soon.
