Author launches book of Mandela poems

Author of ‘The Undying Spirit of a Dead Man’, Bongani Mavuso, 41, was born in Edumbe in Zululand.
He works as a producer at Ukhozi FM and holds a BA Degree in Communication, Information and Technology from the University of Zululand.
Bongani began his writing career in 2006. Although he has written 10 books so far, this one was his first book to be written in English, and is a collection of poems on fallen heroes such as Dr Nelson Mandela.
The book also teaches people to remain true to who they are as Africans, irrespective of the colour of their skin or what language they speak.

The book also speaks about embracing ones heritage and being proud of who you are and where you come from.
His aim as an author is to promote the culture of reading within the people of eThekwini and to see that more books by African authors are placed in public libraries.
“Never give up on your dream, even if only two people believe in your dream, continue writing and be patient. With God nothing is impossible, eventually doors will be opened for you,” he said.
He encourages aspiring writers to attend writing workshops and to write because they are passionate about it not because they are chasing money.
The Merebank Library supports the local author because this was his first time writing a book in English and this book will inspire other people who are passionate about writing to keep on writing because one day they too could see their books on the shelves of the Merebank Library.
