UPDATE: Counting of votes continues, ANC still leading

ANC still in the lead with more close to four million votes.

UPDATE: May 8, 2014, 10:03am: The votes for the fifth democratic elections are still being tallied and the African National Congress is still in the lead with more than 60 percent of the vote. The DA is in second place with more than 20 percent of the vote. The EFF has more than 270, 000 votes followed by the IFP which is close to more than 150, 000 votes.

The NFP has managed to bag more than 90, 000 votes thus far. COPE has managed to attain more than 40, 000 votes. The Minority Front has managed to obtain 0, 04 percent of the vote. The votes are still being tallied by officials. The total number of casted votes at this point is 6,377,648 while 6,287,192 of these votes were recognised as valid votes.

Initial report: Hours after citizens of South Africa casted their vote in hopes of a brighter future in the fifth democratic elections, it has been reported that the African National Congress has taken an early lead with more than two million votes already.

Following behind the ANC is the Democratic Alliance, with more than a million valid votes bagged at this point. Despite being a new kid on the block, the Economic Freedom Fighters(EFF) has managed to attain more than 200,000 votes already. They are followed by the IFP with more than a 100,000 votes. The Minority Front led by Shameen Thakur Rajbansi has thus far managed to receive more than 2,000 votes in the national elections.

While the votes are still being tallied, it is interesting to note that there are 25, 383, 361 registered voters in the country. Out of this 25, 383, 361, a total of 4,874,110 votes were cast and out of this amount, a total of 4,806,329 were valid votes.
