There was an overwhelming sense of gratitude, cheer, and joy as Westcliff resident, Parbathy Ramkilawan Arjoon, fondly known as Mother Parbathy, celebrated her 100th birthday last week.

Her milestone birthday was made even more special by the love and support of her family and church community, who came together to honour a century of faith, resilience, and cherished memories. Parbathy was born on July 14, 1926, on Flower Road, Clairwood.

She later married Arjoon Ramkilawan (now late) in Isipingo. She dedicated herself to caring for her family, with her life’s work being found in raising her children, nurturing her home, and supporting generations of loved ones.

The family lived in Wins Farm, Jacobs, where she raised a family founded on faith, love, and strong values. She later settled on Powerline Street, Westcliff, where she still resides today. Her rich and beautiful legacy continues through her nine children, 24 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.

She also had two siblings – a brother and a sister – both of whom have since passed away.

A faithful and much-loved member of New Bethesda Church, she enjoys attending church services and participating in senior citizens’ gatherings, where her warm smile, gentle spirit, and kind heart continue to encourage others.

The centenarian has always enjoyed planting, gardening, and sewing as these simple yet meaningful hobbies reflect her patient, caring, and creative nature.

Her advice on a long and fulfilling life is to love God, cherish your family, be kind to others, work hard, and never lose your gratitude for life’s blessings.

The management of New Bethesda Church says that she has been a blessing to her family, church, and community, and her century of faith, resilience, and love continues to inspire generations.
