eThekwini employees seek divine guidance during prayer walk

Organised by the municipality’s Human Resources Directorate, the event united people from different faiths in a shared call for peaceful communities, economic growth and a municipality better equipped to deliver quality services despite ongoing challenges.

The eThekwini Municipality has reaffirmed its commitment to improving service delivery and building a resilient workforce by hosting an interfaith prayer walk aimed at inspiring hope, unity, and transformation across the city.

Held on Friday, July 10, the initiative brought together municipal leadership, employees, residents and spiritual leaders to pray for employee wellbeing, financial stability, ethical leadership and the continued transformation of eThekwini.

Organised by the municipality’s Human Resources Directorate, the event united people from different faiths in a shared call for peaceful communities, economic growth and a municipality better equipped to deliver quality services despite ongoing challenges.

Deputy chairperson of the Governance and Human Resources Committee, Councillor Ntando Khuzwayo, said the prayer walk highlighted the important role faith plays in overcoming adversity and strengthening the city’s ability to serve its residents.

“This intervention is critical because, without God, there is nothing we can do in these challenging times. The city is faced with a number of challenges, but we have seen God intervening. Today, we are witnessing the fruits of the prayers we made last year,” he said.

Acting executive director of corporate services, Sihle Mkhize, said prayer-based wellness initiatives continue to have a positive impact on employee morale and organisational performance.

“The prayer walk has demonstrated the power of prayer in addressing service delivery challenges, improving productivity and strengthening the overall performance of the city,” he said.

Mkhize said the Human Resources Directorate would continue promoting programmes that strengthen employee wellness, resilience and purpose, noting that inspired and supported employees are better positioned to deliver services that positively impact communities.

The municipality said the prayer walk symbolised its ongoing commitment to ethical leadership, employee well-being and building a high-performing, caring city capable of meeting the needs of its residents.
