Perumal family reunites to honour 73 years of heritage and legacy

After years of being separated by life’s demands and the lasting impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the large and illustrious Perumal family recently came together to celebrate their very first family reunion.

The reunion was born from a shared desire to reconnect, preserve the family’s rich history, and honour the legacy of the generations who came before them.

Months of planning and heartfelt discussions led to a memorable day that reminded every family member of the importance of unity, love and belonging.

The celebrations began with a warm meet-and-greet, followed by welcome drinks and a thoughtfully planned programme that reflected on the family’s remarkable journey. The day was filled with laughter, storytelling, delicious food, music and dancing as relatives embraced one another, many seeing each other for the first time in years. Young and old shared memories, celebrated milestones and forged new connections, ensuring that the family’s history would continue to be passed down to future generations.

Organiser, Elizabeth Mahomed, added that a special tribute was paid to 96 Roslyn Avenue, the family home that has stood proudly for 73 years.

She said, “More than just a house, it represents the heart of the Perumal family’s story – a place where generations were raised, traditions were established, and countless cherished memories were created. On this special occasion, the family was honoured to recognise the daughters of the family, Visa Subramoney and Managie Naidoo, together with son-in-law, Roy Naidoo, whose unwavering love, guidance and commitment have made them pillars of the Perumal family. Their dedication to preserving family values and keeping generations connected has played a significant role in maintaining the family’s strong foundation.”

Today, the descendants of the family number 103, a remarkable testament to the enduring legacy of two extraordinary people – their beloved grandparents.

Their love, faith, resilience and unwavering commitment to family laid a foundation that continues to inspire every generation that followed.
