Join the Eye Can Walk as KwaZulu-Natal Blind and Deaf Society celebrates 90 years

Eye Can Walk will take place on September 27, 2026, at Suncoast Lawns.

The KwaZulu-Natal Blind and Deaf Society (KZNBDS) is celebrating 90 years of empowering persons with disabilities and creating opportunities for independence and inclusion.

Founded on October 24, 1936, by Constance Cawston as the Natal Society for Bantu and Indian Blind, the organisation was established to provide dignity, education and hope for blind people.

Over the years, it expanded its services to include deaf and hard of hearing individuals and, in 1995, became the KwaZulu-Natal Blind and Deaf Society.

Today, the KZNBDS is one of the province’s leading disability organisations, offering skills development, orientation and mobility training, sign language interpreting, Braille training and employment support to blind, partially sighted, deaf, hard of hearing and deaf-blind individuals.

As part of its 90th anniversary celebrations, the organisation invites the public to participate in the Eye Can Walk 5km/ 10km walk or run on September 27, 2026, at Suncoast Lawns.

The event raises vital funds to support the organisation’s life-changing programmes. Registration can be done online via Webtickets.
