Jay Moodley’s 100-day run brings hope to Chatsworth Hospice
Commencing on July 5, he will finish on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, - an incredible initiative to raise funds for the Chatsworth Hospice’s free palliative care. This isn’t Jay’s first walk or run for the hospice.
On Sunday, July 5, 2026, while most of Chatsworth was still waking up, volunteers, staff, and management from the Chatsworth Regional Hospice Association gathered outside the hospice in Strelitzia Road, Silverglen.
They were walking in support of Jay Moodley, a former resident of Chatsworth, an ultra-marathon runner and friend of the Chatsworth Hospice, who, approximately 8, 000 km away in Bangalore, India, commenced his extraordinary challenge: 21, 1km every day for 100 days.
Commencing on July 5, he will finish on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, – an incredible initiative to raise funds for the Chatsworth Hospice’s free palliative care. This isn’t Jay’s first walk or run for the hospice.
He was part of the amazing ‘Walk of Life’ campaign and helped not only to generate much-needed funds for the hospice but also to create local and international awareness of the vital palliative care services rendered by the Chatsworth Hospice to patients under its caring wings.

“Jay’s heart will forever be in Chatsworth. He’s showing us that you can give back no matter where you are. And he’s inspiring people to get active and healthy while doing it,” said Mrs Niri Pillay, event co-ordinator.
The timing of this amazing challenge is no accident. Commencing on his birthday, Moodley’s initiative hits Day 14 on Mandela Day, July 18 – 67 minutes of giving turned into 21, 1km of hope.
“By using his passion for a valuable purpose, Jay is a beacon of hope for our patients and families. We’re inordinately grateful for Jay’s passion and commitment in bringing hope to Hospice by doing what he loves the most – running,” said the president of the Chatsworth Hospice, Ms Kay Nambiar.
The Chatsworth Hospice provides comfort and dignity to patients with life-limiting illnesses, and it is through initiatives like these that the hospice may sustain its vital palliative care services to those who need it the most.
