“Through the ward councillor’s office in ward 76, the Community Services Committee stepped in to assist the family and their son, Manelisi Khumalo, 17, with a wheelchair. We also handed over toiletries and a grocery voucher to further assist the family. We were touched by Manelisi’s story and his courage,” said Cllr Sokhabase.

Manelisi experiences seizures, which are sudden, uncontrolled bursts of electrical activity in the brain.
He welcomed the donation and thanked Cllr Sokhabase and her team for their support.
“I am excited to receive a wheelchair and the voucher and toiletries. As someone who is also asthmatic, this wheelchair will help improve my mobility,” said Manelisi.
His mother, Thandazile Ndaba, thanked the team for the assistance. She lauded the Operation Sukuma Sakhe war room as a platform for residents to engage leadership. It is through this platform that the committee learned of Khumalo’s plight and stepped in.
