During the month of July, Team Rising Sun is taking on the incredible and exhilarating Africa Rally 2026 with a heartfelt purpose that extends far beyond the finish line.

As Team Rising Sun prepares to travel approximately 12, 000km across Africa, they hope to raise R100, 000 for SPHER3, a worthy non-profit organisation dedicated to bringing compassionate, community-based healthcare to those who need it most, especially the elderly.

While the rally promises adventure, breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable experiences, the journey is ultimately about changing lives and creating a tangible impact.

Every kilometre travelled represents another step towards ensuring that vulnerable members of our community, particularly the elderly and those living with chronic illnesses, receive the dignity, care and support they deserve.

Since its inception, SPHER3 has become a beacon of hope in the communities it serves by taking healthcare directly into people’s homes.

Rather than waiting for vulnerable patients to travel long distances to healthcare facilities, the organisation trains and employs community health workers from within the communities they serve.

These dedicated healthcare workers provide health education, conduct screenings, monitor chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension and high cholesterol, and build lasting relationships with patients who often have nowhere else to turn.

Now, SPHER3 hopes to bring this life-changing model to Chatsworth. Its vision goes beyond healthcare.

The compassionate and caring members of this commendable organisation plan to recruit and train local community health workers, creating meaningful employment opportunities while ensuring residents receive compassionate, home-based care.

The expanded programme will include wound care, rehabilitation support, mobility assistance and end-of-life comfort care, allowing elderly residents and patients recovering from illness or injury to remain in the comfort of their own homes while receiving quality healthcare.

As part of Africa Rally 2026, every participating team has to choose an organisation to raise funds for. For Team Rising Sun, choosing SPHER3 as its fundraising beneficiary was an easy decision.

Residents are encouraged to support the campaign by making a minimum donation of R250. Businesses, corporates, organisations, and private individuals are also invited to sponsor the journey by contributing at least 25 cents for every kilometre Team Rising Sun will travel.

A commitment of at least 25 cents per kilometre across the 12, 000km route is a simple yet meaningful way to invest in the future of community healthcare.

Team Rising Sun started off their mammoth journey at Umzinto in the beautiful KZN South Coast, proceeding to Botswana, then into Zambia and thereafter Malawi.

They will then travel into Tanzania, up to Kilimanjaro, coming around the East Coast towards Dar es Salaam and returning through Zimbabwe, Mozambique, and finally coming home to South Africa.
