Rotary Club of Chatsworth begins new chapter with ‘Create Lasting Impact’ vision

Saturday, June 27, marked a proud milestone for the Rotary Club of Chatsworth as it hosted its 39th induction ceremony, a distinguished occasion reflecting its enduring commitment to service, leadership, and community development.

Rotary magic: Ready to create a lasting impact in the community are the dedicated members of the Rotary Club of Chatsworth together with district governor elect, Melonie Gobel (seated, third from left). 

Held in an atmosphere of camaraderie and purpose, the evening brought together Rotarians, distinguished guests, community leaders, and supporters to witness the induction of the organisation’s 39th president, Joe Jagethpersad, for the 2026/27 Rotary year, along with the new leadership team.

The ceremony also celebrated the club’s rich legacy of impactful service and its continued dedication to making a meaningful difference in the community. 

District governor elect, Melonie Gobel, heaped praises upon the club for their ongoing sterling efforts in humanitarian work and wished President Jagethpersad and his amazing team all the very best for the new term ahead.

The following service awards were also presented at this glittering event:

  • 10-year: Past presidents: Tina Pillay and Morgan Moodley
  • 30-year: Past presidents, Nad Archary and Bala Moodley
  • Current club president, Bobby Pillay, also received the prestigious Paul Harris Award for his sacrifice and commitment during his term of office.

Special avenue of service awards were presented to:

  • Past president, Tina Pillay – international service
  • Past president, Vani Govender – club service

The two lovely recipients received this special honour in lieu of their outstanding service to their Club-9370 District and Rotary International as a whole. They have demonstrated exceptional dedication to Rotary values and community service.

Outgoing club president, Bobby Pillay, thanked the Rotarians for a fantastic year and for all their commitment and dedication.

He wished incoming President Jagethpersad all the very best for his term of office. Pillay also placed on record his sincere thanks and appreciation to various donors and sponsors for their generous assistance during the year.

The dynamic programme director, Vani Govender, also acknowledged and thanked the Rising Sun’s fantastic editorial team, headed by Vivaga Thambiran, for their amazing support and assistance during the year. “The Rising Sun, which serves as the official media sponsor, must be highly commended for fulfilling their social responsibility commitment by supporting worthy community organisations such as Rotary,” she said. 

It is beyond a shadow of a doubt that the Rotary Club of Chatsworth is destined for greater heights and will certainly leave behind a legacy worthy of emulation, thanks to a dedicated and innovative team of Rotarians.
