Lenasia Big Fete Carnival draws thousands despite cold weather
Families and thrill-seekers enjoyed merry-go-rounds and a variety of amusement rides, while local traders showcased everything from clothing and accessories to a wide selection of food stalls, drawing long queues from eager supporters of local businesses.
Thousands of people braved the cold weather to attend the much-anticipated Lenasia Big Fete Carnival, held from Friday, May 8 to Sunday, May 10 at the Lenasia Soccer Stadium.
The blockbuster family festival also marked 15 years of community broadcasting by Lenz FM 93.6, bringing together entertainment, food, music, shopping, and community initiatives under one roof.
The festivities kicked off on Friday evening with free entry for the public and a spectacular international fire-eating performance from Brazil, which captivated the large crowd. The weekend continued with an entry fee of just R5 per person on Saturday and Sunday, with proceeds supporting Lenz FM 93.6’s Winter Blanket Drive campaign and canned food initiative.
Festival goers were treated to a wide range of entertainment throughout the weekend. Saturday featured live performances by Chand Roshini, followed by the popular Bollywood-themed Lenz FM 93.6 Bhangra Bash, with South African entertainer Bash Hoosein and the Desi Boys, who kept the crowd on their feet into the evening.

Sunday’s programme included a karate showcase, an Easter egg hunt for children, and a lively Qawali performance that entertained attendees throughout the day.

Motor enthusiasts also had plenty to enjoy with a car show and sound-off hosted by Lenz Ink and Underdogs. A park-off display by Essa Badat Soldiers, Rashaad, Niaz Rockern and team added to the excitement, while nine leading vehicle brands from local dealerships showcased their latest models.
The event also carried a strong community focus through its Winter Blanket Drive Campaign and “Sponsor a Can of Food” initiative aimed at assisting families in need.
Security remained tight throughout the weekend, with the presence of Lethal Force security personnel and members of the Lenasia Community Policing Forum ensuring the safety of attendees.
Festival goer Poppy Casa-Mia shared her excitement on Friday evening, saying Bash Hoosein and his team never disappoint when organising the Lenasia Big Fete Carnival.
With thousands in attendance, vibrant entertainment, and strong community spirit, this year’s Lenasia Big Fete Carnival once again proved why it remains one of the most anticipated events on the local calendar.
