Third accused in the dock for Shallcross murder
The victim, Justin Pillay, was a father of two who rebuilt his life after a rough childhood and drug addiction, according to his sister, Sarah Pillay.
A third man has appeared in the Chatsworth Magistrates Court for the brazen murder of a Shallcross man, who was killed in a hail of bullets while asleep in his home. Communications officer of Chatsworth SAPS, Cpt Cheryl Pillay, had previously released a statement on the murder, which occurred at a flat on Taurus Street in Shallcross.
“It is alleged that on July 14, 2025, at approximately 1am, a 40-year-old male was asleep at his home when armed suspects entered. The victim was shot multiple times and passed away.”

The victim, Justin Pillay, was a father of two who rebuilt his life after a rough childhood and drug addiction, according to his sister, Sarah Pillay.
“Justin was gunned down during the early hours of the morning by six armed men, claiming to be police officers. They gained entry by breaking the gate and door. To this day, our family is baffled as to how he and my dad slept through all this. My 69-year-old dad, who is a stroke patient, was also shot at, but luckily the bullets narrowly missed him and instead, hit the pillows. Can you imagine people coming into your home, your safe space, and killing your family? Our mum passed away, and I practically raised Justin. It was empowering to see him transform his life, which was taken away from us so violently. An infamous Shallcross gang is responsible for this, as my brother told us that he had been receiving threats from them. Justin was loved by his family – he leaves behind his two children, Jeraldo and Jevante, along with his wife, Nicole. He was loved by his friends and family and always helped people. He loved fishing and was a Chelsea supporter who had recently started a tow truck business called Juju Towlines as well as a removal business. We will miss our brother dearly- his smile lit up the room and he had a heart of gold,” she said.

Sarah further claimed that Justin’s journey towards a drug-free life and the resulting 15 years of sobriety gave him inspiration to help others in their rehab journeys, especially in Wentworth.
“His children, the youngest of which is just two-years-old, keep asking us where their dad is. It is heartbreaking. These gangsters murdered a father, breadwinner, and son. We have full trust, however, in the justice system that the perpetrators will be dealt with. I am calling on the highest authorities to give us justice for my brother,” she concluded.
