Chatsworth law student killed in horror crash weeks after 21st birthday
According to reports, the incident occurred near the Moorton off-ramp, in the early hours of Monday.
Distraught family members are calling for investigations into a horror crash, which claimed the life of a Chatsworth law student, who had just celebrated her 21st birthday earlier in the month.
Khitana Mayess Deonarain was on her way home after spending time with her boyfriend, Cameron Naidoo, and his family at their home in Northdene when the tragedy struck.
According to reports, the incident occurred near the Moorton off-ramp, in the early hours of Monday.
M Naidoo, the uncle of Cameron, spoke to the Rising Sun and stated that they were met with a gruesome sight at the scene.

Naidoo explained that the families are not yet sure on the details of the incident, however, he provided information that was relayed to him at the scene.
“From what we heard, the couple was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle. Both called their parents to inform them of what had happened. It is believed that while waiting for their parents, Khitana and Cameron went to the front of the vehicle, where she prayed to thank God for keeping them safe. At that moment, an Isuzu bakkie hit their car from the back. My nephew was dragged and sustained serious injuries, while Khitana was sadly killed,” he told the Rising Sun.
Naidoo explained that Cameron has since sustained injuries to most of his body, with skin being ripped off his back, legs, and arms. He has since undergone plastic surgery and is recovering in the hospital. He added that after attending the scene, it is only by the grace of God that his nephew survived the ordeal.
He added, “It is believed that the driver of the bakkie was under the influence, despite being adamant that he was not. He was not arrested at the scene and seemed to be more worried about the damage to his vehicle.”
Communications officer of Chatsworth SAPS, Cpt Cheryl Pillay, confirmed that a case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
“At approximately 1am on Monday morning, an accident occurred on the Higginson Highway, resulting in one fatality. Three vehicles were involved in this accident.”

Brother of the deceased, Tristan Mayess, said that he and his family have been left devastated by the death of his baby sister.
“She was a beacon of light and hope and was loved by many because of her good personality. She loved singing as well as playing the piano and guitar, especially when she was involved with worship ministries. Khitana was also studying law and had dreams of being a judge one day. Our family is broken by her death,” said Mayess.
