Firearms and ammunition seized by Umkomaas SAPS
Umkomaas SAPS reiterated that every effort will be made to root out illegal firearms and ammunition from within the jurisdiction.
Det Sgt Knowledge Siyabonga Cele and Cnst Kwanele Shabane from Umkomaas SAPS were recently conducting a raid in the policing precinct. An intelligence-driven operation in the area resulted in the recovery of two unlicensed firearms with ammunition.

According to Umkomaas SAPS spokesperson, Cpt Ranjith Rampersad, the accused, Khwela Phumlani, appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrates Court for unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of an unlicensed firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

“Confiscating illegal firearms helps to make our communities safer by reducing the potential of violent crimes. It’s a positive step towards promoting public safety and protecting innocent lives. We will leave no stone unturned in eradicating illegal firearms and arresting suspects,” said Cpt Rampersad.
