Brighton Beach FCS Unit investigation leads to life sentence for sexual assault
The court ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sexual Offenders.
A 36-year-old Wentworth man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2021 sexual assault of a child, following an investigation by the Brighton Beach SAPS Family, Children and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit.
The accused was convicted and sentenced in the Durban court, recently. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm and unfit to work with children.

The court ordered that his name be entered into the National Register for Sexual Offenders. According to court records, the incident occurred in 2021 when the accused called the minor to his flat in Wentworth.
The child’s age cannot be disclosed to protect her identity. After entering the flat, she was sexually assaulted.
The matter came to light after the child spoke to a sibling about the incident and later disclosed it to her mother.
Detective Sergeant Zuma of the Brighton Beach FCS unit led the investigation. She gathered evidence, prepared the case docket, and made the arrest.
Wentworth SAPS station management commended Det Sgt Zuma for her professionalism and dedication in securing the conviction in a case involving a child. The accused has been transferred to Westville Prison to begin serving his life sentence.
