Metro Police crackdown on crime in Chatsworth

The Durban Metro Police’s drug team recently executed a series of high-impact, intelligence-driven operations, which led to the arrest of two suspects. Most recently, the team targeted a drug dealer operating from both his residence and business premises in the Chatsworth area.

Following the issuing of a search warrant, officers conducted a search at the suspect’s residence where heroin and cannabis were seized.

Further intelligence led members to the suspect’s business, a well-known car sound fitment shop – where additional drugs were seized. In total, 404 x red and white heroin capsules, 58g cannabis, 15 x cannabis pre-rolls, as well as R1, 000 in cash were seized. These are valued at R25, 570.

This suspect is facing charges of possession of heroin, dealing in heroin, and dealing in cannabis. The units involved included the Durban Metro Police drug team, Counter Narcotics Crime Intelligence, SAPS Economic Infrastructure Task Team, and DPCI.

In a previous case, the DMPD team, in partnership with the Chatsworth Unit, Crime Intelligence, and Chatsworth SAPS tracing team, arrested a Malawian national following intelligence received regarding the sale of suspected stolen goods and controlled substances. The operation led to the arrest of a Malawian national, who was found in possession of items believed to have been stolen during a recent business robbery at a local footwear manufacturing factory.

Among the recovered items were six pairs of Puma soccer boots, six pairs of school shoes, 31 cartons of illicit cigarettes, five bottles of controlled medication, as well as R2, 322 in cash.

The suspect was detained at Chatsworth SAPS and charged accordingly under relevant sections of the law, including contravention of the Medicines and Related Substances Control Act. The Durban Metro Police remains committed to working with law enforcement partners to clamp down on the distribution of stolen goods and illegal substances across the municipality.
