Annual report highlights successes of Metro Police
The Metro Police has forged a strong relationship with sister units to implement several programmes including a major Albert Park clean-up operation as well as repairs to shelters by working with the Safer Cities Unit.
The 2023/24 financial year proved to be a successful one for the city’s men and women in blue according to the annual report for the year.
The report showed that the Metro Police reported significant strides in terms of their employment practices, traffic control, by-law enforcement operations, and crime prevention responses.

The Metro Police successfully achieved the following:
- 2, 755 arrests
- 754, 892 traffic fines issued
- 116, 417 by-law enforcement offences
- 146 new vehicles procured
- More than 500 new Metro police recruits deployed

They also conduct routine traffic operations working with the Department of Home Affairs and the South African Police Service.
They also conduct business by-law enforcement operations working with the Health Unit and Business Support. The period under review also presented challenges which included homelessness and vagrants, undocumented/ illegal foreign nationals, and business and by-law compliance.
