Food Lover’s Market opens groundbreaking Food Lover’s Village in Cornubia

Located at the Corner of Allamanda Road and Umhlanga Ridge Boulevard, Mount Edgecombe, the Food Lover’s Village promises to become a cornerstone of the Cornubia community, blending convenience, quality, and innovation in one dynamic space.

Food Lover’s Market, South Africa’s largest privately owned retailer, has unveiled its first retail village in Cornubia, Durban. The eagerly anticipated Food Lover’s Village opened on November 28, 2024, drawing thousands of customers eager to explore this state-of-the-art shopping destination.

The R60 million development features a 2, 800 m² Food Lover’s Market alongside Market Liquors, VetSmart, and Seattle Coffee Co, offering an innovative and vibrant shopping experience. Designed to be Durban’s premier fresh destination, the store incorporates animatronics, digital screens, and spacious aisles to transform the retail experience into an engaging adventure.

“We’re dedicated to creating an exceptional environment that will turn our customers into loyal fans. We are so proud to open this store and are confident it will create an experience like no other,” said Travis Coppin, CEO of Food Lover’s Market Retail.

Excited shoppers filed into the store on Thursday morning to revel in the opening sale. 

The store is managed by Michael De Sousa, a retail veteran with 28 years of experience, including eight years with Food Lover’s Market. De Sousa leads a team of 130 employees, 40 of whom are from the local area, further strengthening ties to the Cornubia community. Food Lover’s Market Cornubia boasts an impressive range of departments tailored to local tastes. The fresh produce section features seasonal fruits and vegetables, available in both loose bins and convenient pre-packs.

The gourmet butchery, managed by the renowned B Nagiahs, offers fresh and pre-packed meat cuts alongside a traditional butcher’s block, while the seafood section includes fresh and frozen options, with the ‘scoop, pay and weigh’ shellfish proving especially popular.

Other highlights include a world-class scratch bakery offering a variety of freshly baked breads, muffins, and treats under the ‘Baked with Love’ label. The Indian spice department showcases genuine Durban flavours with freshly ground and whole spices.

For quick meals, hot food options like Pie O’ My, Bub’s Fish and Chips, and Crispy Chicken are complemented by grab-and-go sushi selections from The Fresh Society.
