Meadowlands Technical High School to host exciting motor mech competition

Technical competitions at the school level are increasingly becoming so popular with existing competitions in Worcester, Kariega, and East London.

Well-known KZN technical school, Meadowlands Technical High School, which is based in the heart of Montford, is leading the way in skills development and on Saturday, September 14 will be hosting, in conjunction with the Motor Industry Workshop Association (MIWA) a proud association of the Retail Motor Industry Organisation (RMI), the first motor mech competition in the KwaZulu-Natal.

Recognising the critical need for scarce skills in the country and the unemployment crisis among the youth, the principal of Meadowlands, Suren Naidoo, was elated at the opportunity to host a show for young people interested in the automotive industry.

“Skills development is a critical need in addressing the unemployment crisis among our youth, and I am inordinately proud that my school will be able to partner with MIWA to host the first motor mech competition in our region,” he shared.

Technical competitions at the school level are increasingly becoming so popular with existing competitions in Worcester, Kariega, and East London. “They are the ideal showcase to attract upcoming and aspiring mechanics and to demonstrate how passionate our industry is about training and drawing young talent into the sector. We are serious about fostering future careers in the automotive industry and it is a privilege to be collaborating for the first time with Meadowlands,” stated Morne de Jager, MIWA regional representative.

De Jager, who will be organising the show with MIWA KZN chairperson, Dhaya Naidoo, says there will be plenty of activities to keep the crowds enthralled. In addition to the junior motor mech competition, there will be a variety of new and classic cars on display as well as a show and shine and sound-off competition.

For the kids, there will be a kiddies’ area and plenty of refreshments and food stalls. Doors will be open from 9:30am until 5:30pm at Meadowlands Technical High School, 81 Road 734, Montford, Chatsworth. Entry will be free.
