Manhunt launched after six people shot and killed in Umlazi
Following the senseless killings, the minister of police, Senzo Mchunu, together with provincial police commissioner, Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, visited the scene to address the community and speak with the families of the deceased.
Police across KwaZulu-Natal have launched a large-scale manhunt for suspects, who shot and killed six men at an informal settlement in Section V6 in Umlazi, on Saturday night, August 17.

According to provincial police spokesperson, Col Robert Netshiunda, reports indicate that the horrific scene unfolded when three men seated outside their rented accommodation were consuming alcohol when unknown suspects arrived and opened fire at them.
“The suspects proceeded to the landlord’s house where they shot him and another man, who was also inside the house. The suspects also shot another man on the pathway. All six victims, aged between 20 and 40, were declared dead at the scene. The motive of the killings is unknown at this stage.”
