Joining forces to tackle crime in the Verulam CBD

In spite of the overload on the Verulam SAPS and the logistics of manpower and vehicles, the many operations that took place recently, have had many arrests of syndicates that were hell-bent on terrorising communities.

The Verulam Business Forum is highly concerned and despondent over the high levels of a crime wave that has infiltrated the Verulam CBD.

Chairperson of the forum, Sagren Venkatas, said, “Together with all participating partners, the SAPS, Metro Police, security companies, Operation Unity, CPF, and Sector Policing, we are relentlessly fighting crime in and around Verulam. Our bold and decisive approach in preventing and combating crime as well as intercepting criminals in all forms continues to yield positive results.”

In spite of the overload on the Verulam SAPS and the logistics of manpower and vehicles, the many operations that took place recently, have had many arrests of syndicates that were hell-bent on terrorising communities.

Venkatas added, “We are honoured to have our local security companies with us such as the likes of RUSA, etc. They demonstrate their commitment and dedication to serving our community, together with our men and women in blue, who relentlessly refuse to give up this fight against crime. All operations within the CBD will always be organised by the Verulam Business Forum, but the planning is by the SAPS. No operations can take place without the SAPS.”

Members of the community are advised to report any crime-related matters to the SAPS.

“Police are not aware of such incidents if you do not report a case and when a suspect is found, it is difficult to apprehend them as there is no case number. Let’s encourage victims of crime to be proactive and report crime- it does not matter how small or big it may be,” stated Venkatas.

The forum believes that at the core of their priorities and on top of agenda, is the need to constantly heighten and enhance police visibility as a form of deterrent to crime. Ears remain on the ground, and they are well aware that the community wants to see more police officers on the ground. It is encouraging to note that enhancing capacity remains another key priority.

“The Verulam Business Forum is working directly with all relevant stakeholders to find a solution in taking part and leading operations on the ground. Mahatma Gandhi once said that we need to be the change we wish to see and that’s what we are trying to do. I humbly appeal to all visitors of Verulam to not be afraid and to shop in Verulam with safety precautions. Together with all our stakeholders, we are working for you,” concluded Venkatas.
