Father stabbed to death as family watch in horror
Family watches helplessly as dad is attacked by knife-wielding perpetrator.
A Crossmoor family watched in horror as their loved one was allegedly stabbed to death outside their home in Litchen Road (1104), on Thursday evening. A breadwinner in his family, Logan Wesley Pillay, was believed to have been stabbed twice after an argument broke out with an unknown man who had allegedly urinated at the front gate of his home. The 27-year-old father of four was stabbed in the chest and neck while his wife and four children watched helplessly as the horror attack unfolded.
Deena Padayachee, cousin of the deceased, spoke to the Rising Sun and said, “My cousin was having a braai at his home with a few of his colleagues, friends and family. He noticed someone urinating on the front gate and approached the person. He told the man to refrain from urinating there as that was his home and that his family and friends were just trying to enjoy a relaxing afternoon. The man got very angry and they argued for a while. The argument then ended and everyone went into the house. Wesley then went outside and when he took a while to come back inside his family went outside to check what the delay in his return was. It was at that point that they witnessed him being stabbed by the same man who had urinated on the gate. His four-year-old daughter is severely traumatised and keeps speaking about the incident and asks why the man poked her daddy with a knife. Our family is distraught by the attack and brutal killing. We are also concerned about the children as they witnessed their father being stabbed in cold blood.”
Communications officer of Chatsworth SAPS, Lt Cheryl Pillay, said, “It is alleged that a man was stabbed at Litchen Road and transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. At this stage, the motive for the attack is unknown. Police have not made any arrests and investigations are continuing.”
In the meanwhile, Pillay’s family is battling to come to terms with the gruesome killing. Close friend of the deceased, Louie Govender, described Pillay as a kind soul who will go the extra mile to help anyone. “Wesley was a qualified spray painter and had a great passion for cars. He also bought and sold used cars as a sideline business. He was a very helpful person who would go out of his way to assist people. He was very family orientated and as the sole breadwinner in his family, he did a fantastic job. His wife and children always had everything they needed and he did his best to make sure that everyone was fine. He even took care of his mother, who lived in Westcliff. He supported her financially and he was her pride and joy. Wesley was also involved in community upliftment and safety programmes, and he enthusiastically joined the neighbourhood watch which was formed to help eradicate crime in the area. He will be sadly missed,” said the grieving Govender.
According to him, the person that stabbed Pillay is notorious for attacking and stabbing people and resides in the Bottlebrush Informal Settlement. “We were told that the man who is responsible for the death of my friend is known as Gwaza, which means ‘stab’ in IsiZulu. We cannot fathom how this man, who is so notorious for stabbing people, has still not been caught by the police. The law needs to be stricter in terms of bail, and jail terms, which might deter criminals.” Meanwhile, the funeral of Pillay was held on Monday, at his mother’s residence in Westcliff.
