Berea SAPS leads awareness programme at local school

Representatives from Berea SAPS, the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, Lifeline, and the K9 Unit provided informative and engaging presentations designed to resonate with the young audience.

In a collaborative effort to educate and protect the youth, Berea SAPS, in partnership with the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, LifeLine, and the K9 Unit, conducted a comprehensive school awareness programme at Clarence Primary School on Tuesday, July 16.

The event, which took place at 10am, was aimed at addressing critical issues such as drugs, bullying, crime, sexual abuse, harassment, and general safety. The programme targeted pupils from grades five to seven, offering them valuable insights and practical advice on how to navigate these challenges.

Representatives from Berea SAPS, the Department of Community Safety and Liaison, Lifeline, and the K9 Unit provided informative and engaging presentations designed to resonate with the young audience.

Cpt Poobalan Naidoo of Berea SAPS emphasised the importance of early education on these issues. Lifeline’s counsellors spoke passionately about the impact of bullying and sexual harassment, providing strategies for pupils to seek help and support if they encounter such situations.

They highlighted the importance of speaking out and assured the children that help is always available. The K9 Unit’s demonstration was a highlight of the programme, captivating the pupils while also showing the practical role of police dogs in detecting drugs and enhancing security. The Department of Community Safety and Liaison reiterated its commitment to supporting such initiatives.
