During Easter, a Morningside family faced an empty chair at their holiday table for the first time. The absence of their beloved son, who fell victim to a fatal shooting a month ago, casts a sombre shadow over what should be a time of celebration and renewal.
The tragic loss of their son, Xolani Chili, who was affectionately known as Flex, continues to haunt the tight-knit family.

According to the deceased’s mother, Maria Chili, the 42-year-old had confided in them about feeling as though he was being followed in the days leading up to his untimely death on Tuesday, February 13, 2024.
“My son was shot 16 times while he was opening the gate at his home in New Germany. Nothing was taken from the car- a fact that leads us to believe that this was an assassination. We are left with questions as to why he was killed. Xolani was a vibrant soul with so much ahead of him. His absence is felt deeply by everyone, who knew him as well as his three children. The pain of losing him is indescribable,” said Maria.
